The Women in Construction and Engineering Awards have announced their 2024 finalists, which included our Senior Traffic Engineer, Diana Mercado, and our Business Commercial Director, Paul Adams. Congratulations both!
Diana is a Civil Engineer finalist. Paul is shortlisted for Best Mentor.
What are the WICE Awards celebrating?
“The construction sector plays an important role in economic growth. However, it remains male-dominated and women’s growing role as decision-makers and buyers is not reflected by their input into construction innovation and creativity.”
The Department of Civil and Building Engineering
The WICE Awards aim at recognising women in the construction workforce as well as celebrating inspiring role models who have spent efforts in mentoring and developing the women in our sector.
Our finalists
Diana has over six years of experience in managing a wide range of schemes for a wide range of clients, such as Newham Council, Tower Hamlets, and Lewisham Council. Some of the projects she led included road safety, 20mph zones, liveable neighbourhoods and junction improvements that facilitate active travel. Diana recently achieved a First in her civil engineering degree; while working, studying and running a busy family home.
Diana is a member of Women in Transport, as well as our internal group, the Women’s Learning and Development Network. She shows a strong commitment to promoting equal opportunities for women in the industry. As an enthusiastic and expert traffic engineer, we recently interviewed Diana to find out more about what drives her passion towards the industry. Read more of her story so far.
Paul Adams supports many of our people to grow professionally through inspiring development and scoping tailored training opportunities. He also led key decisions which helped grow the team at a commercially viable pace.
Paul was nominated by our Associate Director, Ambika Chouan: “Paul’s mentorship has really helped me find my feet in the business and understand the nuances of commercial decisions which affect the growth of my team in the region. Paul reflects on the importance of leadership and mentorship in fostering a thriving work environment.”
Congratulations Diana and Paul on making it to the final, and many congratulations to all those who were nominated.
The Awards
Our finalists will now have to go through a second interviewing panel to decretage the category’s winner. The celebration night will take place in person Thursday 23 May in London, at the Park Plaza Westminster.
