Background
Project Centre was commissioned by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) to improve the bus network across the area. Our expert team set up a number of measures to increase bus frequencies, reduce fares and introduce multi-operator ticketing.
In March 2021, the government launched the Bus back better strategy, requiring local transport authorities to develop bus improvement plans. Within RBWM, we worked to meet government requirements, targeting significant improvements to the bus network for the borough’s community.
Process
Our multidisciplinary team helped the RBWM to:
- Coordinate surveys and gather appropriate data around bus usage in the area to recommend new achievable targets for the bus network
- Present a forward-thinking set of measures, driving changes in bus usage, punctuality and user satisfaction, in line with the government’s wider objectives
- Make interventions in infrastructures, ticketing improvements and pricing
- Write a BSIP report, including all the relevant sections as highlighted by the Department for Transport
Impact
By extensively listening to the resident’s needs and concerns, we promoted a set of measures that encountered a high level of satisfaction within our clients and their community.
The team were excellent at gathering information, drafting and delivering to schedule and budget.

Cabinet approved the BSIP last night. The comments and questions received were of a positive nature and people were welcoming what is a well presented and clear document. Many thanks for all your work on this and getting it to a really good place.
