North Acton in Ealing sits at the southern edge of the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation regeneration area. It’s one of the fastest growing public realm for residential development. The station is a key interchange point between the two western branches of the Central Line and is now the second-busiest station in the borough.
Project Centre was appointed by Ealing Council to review the public realm landscape design and access improvement to the station. Ealing Council, Murrill Construction Ltd and key partners transformed a former petrol station site into a high quality open space. It provides a significant step change in access for users of North Acton Underground Station. It’s a high-quality and accessible space for residents and commuters to rest and enjoy the site. Further development includes supporting businesses (including market traders) and events through power outlets, water and wastewater.
With construction completed in 2020, the new regeneration area has enabled a fully accessible and safe route from the street to the station.
Cllr Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council visited the site to see the progress of the project first-hand:. “It’s really positive to see the first phase of this major project, and the new stairway here providing a safer route for local commuters. We remain committed to improving public spaces and encouraging people to walk or cycle. A safer more accessible space at North Acton is something that can help residents do just that. This scheme will benefit both residents and commuters and help fulfil the potential of North Acton even further.”
