Background
Project Centre are playing a major role in the development of Medway Innovation Park, an 18-hectare council-led scheme adjacent to Rochester Airport.
Our masterplan proposes employment-led land usage on a flexible grid with car-free clusters and green links to encourage active travel. The masterplan is centred around a new green space, named Runway Par. It focuses on providing new and sustainable outdoor spaces for future tenants.
The design for the public realm reflects the client’s brand identity of “pathway of discovery”. The streets are defined by straight, legible, and permeable routes. Above all, our masterplan creates a high-quality environment as well as it promotes active lifestyles.
Process
Our multidisciplinary team helped the borough to:
- Identify key connections and areas of activation to shape the masterplan
- Improve the public realm and outdoor space, making it attractive and safe
- Connect the surroundings with new footway space and cycle routes
- Encourage a footfall with employment-led land uses
- Assess risks and plan interventions to mitigate these
The impact of our masterplan
Project Centre has delivered RIBA stages 2 to 6 for the scheme, providing urban design and masterplanning as well as landscape design and a full range of civil engineering, lighting and drainage services.
We have played a key part in the masterplan design during and after Covid, adapting designs as industry demands and public opinion changed. By listening to the client and their community, we’re developing an urban space where people will want to live in.
