Nishil Parmar, Geoff Waller, Justin Clarke, and Eleanor Walker attended the Kent County Council (KCC) Joint Volunteer Day. The day was in support the Lower Thames Crossing Biodiversity Project.
The proposed Lower Thames Crossing will reduce congestion on major UK roads, but it comes at a price for KCC’s biodiversity. The Lower Thames Crossing Biodiversity Project’s purpose is to plant extra trees and enhance the local biodiversity, reducing the effects of the crossing on existing woodlands and habitats.
Project Centre organised the joint volunteering day in conjunction with the Highway and Transportation Contract Commissioning team. The volunteers planted 290-acre woodlands in Shorne Woods Country Park. The extra planting will mitigate the environmental impacts of the Lower Thames tunnels and crossings.
“The volunteers all worked well and cleared a lot. They just got stuck in and didn’t want to stop! I haven’t seen such committed people before” Lead Ranger, Richard McGIll, commented.
David Aspinall, the Strategic Contract & Commissioning Support Manager, thanked all the volunteers for their hard work and said well done.
