Project Centre was appointed by Volker Highways to deliver the detailed design of safer, more resilient road restraint system for the Corporation Street North Retaining Wall.
This structure supports the southbound A2, along with a busy footway and cycleway near Rochester Bridge, where upgraded edge protection was needed to meet modern safety standards.
Working closely with Volker Highways and Medway Council, our approach involved:
- Detailed surveys
- Technical assessments
- Structural investigations to resolve challenges such as unknown foundation details and structural limitations
- Acting as Principal Designer, managing Health & Safety risks throughout the design phase
Project Centre’s design ensured the retaining wall could safely support a new vehicle restraint system (VRS) while maintaining the structural integrity of the wall. The lifespan of this key piece of infrastructure was also extended, creating a safer, more resilient environment for the Rochester community.
