Windsor Castle experiences an ever-increasing number of visitors from all over the world year by
year. As a result, roads and footways around the town centre are heavily congested during the
peak summer season.
Project Centre has been requested to provide the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
with consultancy services for the delivery of the Windsor Castle Hill public realm. The design
process followed a period of engagement to understand the complex mix of requirements and
sensitivities of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The proposed public realm design principles aim to create a high-quality historic town centre
that provides a pleasant and well-designed public realm for the growing number of visitors by
prolonging and enhancing their experience during their stay. The design will be in line with the best
practice in urban design where legibility of routes and clear hierarchy aids to provide subtle
character differences in a historic heritage environment which will guide and broaden the area of
visitor circulation.
